Lesson 1: Verbs + Am / Is / Are
Understand verbs and how to form correct sentences.
1. What is a Verb?
A verb is a word that shows an action, a state, or a condition. It tells us what someone is doing or what is happening.
Without a verb, a sentence is incomplete.
2. Types of Verbs

3. What are Am / Is / Are?
These are forms of the verb "to be". They describe identity, condition, or actions happening now.
- Who someone is → She is a teacher
- How someone feels → I am happy
- What is happening → They are working
4. When to Use Them
Am

5. How to Use Them
With adjectives:
Subject + am/is/are + adjective
I am happy
With actions (continuous):
Subject + am/is/are + verb + ing
She is eating
⚠️ Key Rule
If you use am / is / are with a verb → add -ing
✔ She is eating
❌ She is eat
6. Common Mistakes
- ❌ I am eat → I am eating
- ❌ She are happy → She is happy
- ❌ They is working → They are working
6. What Comes After "Am / Is / Are"?
"Am / is / are" do NOT always require -ing. It depends on what you want to say.
1. + Verb (-ing) → Action happening now
Subject + am/is/are + verb + ing
- They are playing soccer
- We are waiting for the bus
2. + Adjective → State or condition
- They are hungry
- The books are good
3. + Noun → Identity
- They are students
- You are my friend
4. + Past participle → Passive
- The results are attached
- The floors are cleaned every day
5. + to + verb → Plans / rules
- We are to meet at 8 PM
- You are not to leave this room
